Indications
Ganaton Tablets is used for:
Functional dyspepsia, non-ulcer dyspepsia (chronic gastritis) i.e. sensation of bloating, early satiety, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, anorexia, heartburn, nausea and vomiting
Adult Dose
ADULT, by mouth, 50 mg 3 times daily. Take at least 1 hour before meals
ELDERLY: May reduce dose

Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity to Itopride or any of the excipients.
Avoid use in conditions where increase in GI motility could be harmful e.g., GI hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation
Precautions
Itopride enhances the action of acetylcholine and may produce cholinergic side effects
Elderly
Pregnancy; Breastfeeding
Pregnancy-Lactation
Recommendations on the use of Itopride in Pregnancy & Lactation:
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. There are no known effects of Itopride hydrochloride on labour or delivery. Itopride is secreted in breastmilk and has potential for adverse effect in the nursing infants in animal studies. Therefore, itopride hydrochloride should not be used during pregnancy and lactation unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks and is advisable that breastfeeding is discontinued during treatment (Abbott, n.d.).

Interactions
Due to its gastrokinetic effects, it may influence the absorption of co-administered oral drugs esp. drugs with a narrow therapeutic index, sustained-release or enteric-coated formulations.
Anticholinergic drugs may antagonize some of its effects
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Itopride :
Diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, increased saliva and nausea; dizziness, headache and tremor; rash, redness and itching; jaundice, leukopenia and thrombocytoopenia; anaphylactoid reaction; increased prolactin level and gynaecomastia
