Indications
Hiberix Vaccine Injection is used for:
Haemophilus influenzae type b infection, (meningitis, septicemia, cellulitis, arthritis).
Adult Dose
Not approved for adult.
Child Dose
H. influenzae Type B Immunization
Prevention of invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b.
(Vaccine is approved for use in children 2 months through 5 years of age)
A 4-dose series (0.5 mL each) given by intramuscular injection (2.3):
• Primary series: One dose each at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. The first dose may be given as early as 6 weeks of age.
• Booster: One dose at 15 through 18 months of age.
Infants between the ages of 6 and 12 months previously unvaccinated should receive 2 injections, given with an interval of one month, followed by a booster in the second year
of life.
Children aged 1-5 years who were previously not vaccinated should be given one dose of the vaccine.

Administration
Vaccine is administered as a single dose (0.5 mL) by intramuscular injection into the anterolateral aspect of the thigh or deltoid.

Precautions
Minor illnesses such as upper respiratory infection with or without low-grade fever are not contraindications for use of HIB vaccine. As reported with Haemophilus b polysaccharide vaccines, cases of H influenzae type b disease may occur subsequent to vaccination and prior to the onset of protective effects of the vaccine. Medical supervision is needed.

Interactions
Immunosuppressive therapies, including irradiation, antimetabolites, alkylating agents, cytotoxic drugs, and corticosteroids (used in greater than physiologic doses) may reduce the immune response to vaccine.
Adverse Effects

Irritability (72.6%), drowsiness (57.5%), tenderness (46.3%), induration (22.5%), fever (20.1%), anorexia (15.3%), diarrhea (4.4%)
