Indications
Praxilene Capsules (Hard Gelatin) is used for:
Cerebrovascular disorders, Peripheral vascular disease, Intermittent claudication, Raynaud's syndrome
Adult Dose
Adult: PO
Cerebrovascular disorders 100 mg 3 times/day.
Peripheral vascular disease 100-200 mg 3 times/day.
Symptomatic treatment of intermittent claudication caused by chronic occlusive arterial disease of the lower limb at stage II. Adjuvant treatment of Raynaud's syndrome.
Arterial disease of the lower limb 1 tab tds.
Raynaud's syndrome 1 tab bd. Max: 2 tab daily.

Administration
Should be taken with food. Take with a large glass of water.
Contra Indications
History of hyperoxaluria or recurrent calcium-containing stones. Hypersensitivity. Hyperoxaluria.
Precautions
Patient should take sufficient amount of liquid during treatment. May cause oesophagitis. Maintain adequate level of diuresis during therapy to prevent formation of Ca oxalate kidney stones. Liver damage. Not a treatment for arterial HTN, congenital galactosemia, glucose & galactose malabsorption syndrome or in case of lactase deficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Pregnancy-Lactation
Use in pregnancy: Naftidrofuryl is mainly for use in elderly subjects in whom there is no risk of becoming pregnant.
There is no, or inadequate evidence of the safety of Naftidrofuryl in human pregnancy. It is therefore, not advisable to use Naftidrofuryl in pregnant women.
Use in lactation: No information is available in breastfeeding women. Naftidrofuryl should not be used in breastfeeding women.
Interactions
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Naftidrofuryl Oxalate :
Nausea and epigastric pain, rash, hepatitis or hepatic failure, calcium oxalate stones. GI disorders (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain); skin rash.
Mechanism of Action
Naftidrofuryl produces dilatation of the blood vessels. It has been shown to enhanced cellular oxidative capacity by increasing ATP levels and reducing lactic acid levels in ischaemic conditions. It is also a potent spasmolytic agent.
