Alcaftadine

Indications

Alcaftadine is used for: Prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

Adult Dose

Instill one drop in each eye once daily.

Contra Indications

Alcaftadine eye drop is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this product.

Precautions

The drug should not be instilled while wearing contact lenses. If hypersensitivity reaction occurs after instillation patients should be advised to discontinue the use of Alcaftadine and consult with physicians. Lactation: Unknown whether distributed in breast milk, caution advised.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Alcaftadine : 1-10% Ocular Irritation, Burning, Stinging, Redness, Pruritus, Eye discharge, Eye swelling, Erythema of eyelid, Eyelid edema Nonocular Nasopharyngitis, Headache, Influenza, Somnolence

Mechanism of Action

Alcaftadine is an H1, H2 & H4 histamine receptor antagonist and inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells.
