Mechanism of Action
Chloramphenicol is an antimicrobial agent that is classified as a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is widely used for bacterial ear canal infections. This exhibit bacteriostatic activity, and its mechanism of action involves affecting amino acids and blocking protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth.
Clotrimazole is type of broad spectrum antifungal with both fungicidal and fungostatic properties.
Beclomethasone is a topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid which works inside the ear to reduce swelling. This is achieved by affecting the immune and inflammatory response.
Lidocaine is commonly applied topically for its strong local anesthetic properties. It has been proven to reduce pain in the auditory canal in patients affected by acute ear infections. By acting on the neuronal membrane, it can affect the conduction of pain impulses, thereby relieving local pain.
