Indications
Clioquinol 1% + Flumetasone Pivalate 0.02% Ear prep is used for:
Inflammation of the external ear
Adult Dose
Otic/Aural
Inflammation of the external ear with suspected secondary infection
Adult: Instill 2-3 drops bid directly into the auditory canal of the affected ear. Recommended treatment duration: 7-10 days. Patient should be seated or lying down with the treated ear turned upwards during application. Maintain this position for at least 1-2 minutes after application.

Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation or iodine. Primary bacterial, viral or fungal infections of the outer ear. Tympanic membrane perforation. Children <2 yr.
Precautions
Prolonged use may lead to adrenal suppression. Preparation should not come into contact with the conjunctiva. Discontinue treatment if there is severe irritation or sensitisation or if there is no improvement after 1 wk of application. Pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of Clioquinol 1% + Flumetasone Pivalate 0.02% Ear prep :
May cause irritation at the site of application such as burning sensation, itching or skin rash. May cause hair discolouration.
Mechanism of Action
Flumetasone pivalate is a moderately potent glucocorticoid, usually used for local application. It has an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictive and anti-proliferative effect. Clioquinol, is a bacteriostatic agent that is active against a broad spectrum of pathogenic micro-organisms, including fungi and gram-positive bacteria (e.g. staphylococci). It has only a moderate inhibitory effect on gram-negative bacteria.
