Efalizumab

Indications

Efalizumab is used for: Psoriasis

Adult Dose

Subcutaneous Psoriasis Adult: Initially, 0.7 mg/kg; followed by a wkly dose of 1 mg/kg. Treatment period is usually 12 wk, to continue only when there is improvement. Max: 200 mg/dose.

Contra Indications

Known hypersensitivity. Should not be used in patients with clinically important infections.

Precautions

Monitor platelet counts before and during treatment. Acellular, live and live-attenuated vaccines should not be given during treatment. Pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions

Avoid concurrent admin of other immunosuppressive agents or with phototherapy.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Efalizumab : Headache, fever, nausea, vomiting.

Mechanism of Action

Efalizumab is a recombinant humanized anti-CD11a monoclonal antibody functioning as an immunosuppressive agent used in the management of moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis.
