Levobunolol Hydrochloride
Indications
Levobunolol Hydrochloride is used for:
Open-angle glaucoma, Ocular HTN
Adult Dose
Ophthalmic
Ocular hypertension; Open-angle glaucoma
Adult: As 0.25% drops: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) bid.
As 0.5% drops: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) once daily, may increase to 1 drop bid.

Contra Indications
Bronchial asthma, severe COPD; sinus bradycardia; 2nd and 3rd degree heart block; overt cardiac failure; cardiogenic shock.
Precautions
Patients at risk of developing hypoglycaemia. DM. Thyrotoxicosis. Known diminished pulmonary function. Cerebrovascular insufficiency. Do not drive or operate machinery until vision is clear. Pregnancy and lactation.
Lactation: Not known if distributed into milk, use caution

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women; ophthalmic solution should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus

It is not known whether drug is excreted in human milk; systemic beta-blockers and topical timolol maleate are known to be excreted in human milk; exercise caution when administered to a nursing woman
Interactions
Additive hypotensive effect w/ catecholamine-depleting drug (e.g. reserpine), Ca channel blockers, beta-adrenergic blockers, digitalis glycosides, antiarrhythmics, guanethidine, parasympathomimetics. Mydriasis may occur when used w/ epinephrine.
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Levobunolol Hydrochloride :
Ocular stinging, burning, blepharoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, decreased visual acuity, band keratopathy, erythema, iridocyclitis, conjunctivitis and itching sensation; bradycardia, CVA, syncope, arrhythmia, heart block, hypotension, cerebral ischeamia, bronchospasm. Rarely, reduced corneal sensitivity and tearing.
Mechanism of Action
Levobunolol is a nonselective beta-adrenergic blocking agent. It causes the reduction of intraocular pressure by decreasing the production of aqueous humour.
