Indications
Magnesium Oxide is used for:
Magnesium Supplementation, Antacid
Adult Dose
Magnesium Supplementation
Tablet: 1-2 tablets PO once a Day
Antacid
Tablet: 1 tablet PO once a Day or q12hr;
not to exceed 2 tablets/day
Child Dose
Renal Dose
CrCl <30 mL/min: Caution; monitor for hypermagnesemia
Administration
Take with food
Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity, Renal failure.
Precautions
Caution with renal impairment
Caution with myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular diseases
Pregnancy-Lactation
Pregnancy Category: A; 350-400 mg/day elemental Mg recommended during pregnancy
Lactation: Distributed in breast milk; 310-360 mg/day elemental Mg recommended during lactation
Interactions
May decrease absorption of tetracyclines and bisphosphonates; separate administration of these and other drugs by around 2 hr.
