Adult Dose

Powder for hemodialysis is a practical alternative to liquid basic bicarbonate hemodialysis solution 8.4 %. One filter at the cartridge inlet and one filter at the outlet port respectively Liquid acid concentrate series is formulated to be mixed only in a compatible 45X dilution three-stream artificial kidney (hemodialysis) machine. For every 45 volume parts of dialysate, mix 1 volume part of acid concentrate (SB-100 series or SB-300 series) and 1.72 volume parts of properly mixed MB-330 Series Sodium Bicarbonate Concentrate with 42.28 volume parts of Purified Water (AAMI quality).

Interactions

Sodium bicarbonate....Increases toxicity of amphetamines, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, flecainide, quinidine and quinine. Decreases effects of lithium, chlorpropamide and salicylates due to increased clearance. May affect the absorption of certain drugs due to raised intra-gastric pH.

Mechanism of Action

Sodium bicarbonate raises blood and urinary pH by dissociation to provide bicarbonate ions, which neutralises the hydrogen ion concentration. It also neutralises gastric acid via production of carbon dioxide.
