Indications

Tioconazole Vag prep is used for: Vulbo-Vaginal candidiasis

Adult Dose

Vaginal Vaginal candidiasis Adult: As vaginal Ointment: One full applicator of Vaginal Ointment administered intravaginally at bedtime as a single dose. As vaginal suppository: 300 mg as a single dose P/V.

Child Dose

Vaginal Vaginal candidiasis Child> 12 years: As vaginal Ointment: One full applicator of Vaginal Ointment administered intravaginally at bedtime as a single dose. As vaginal suppository: 300 mg as a single dose P/V.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to imidazole-derivative azole antifungal. Self-medication in women with diabetes or HIV infection. Girls <12 yr.

Precautions

Self-medication in patient w/ DM, HIV infection. Girls <12 yr (vag). Pregnancy and lactation. Patient Counselling Vag: Avoid sexual intercourse. Condoms and diaphragms may be damaged and fail to prevent pregnancy or STD, may resume usage 3 days after treatment. Avoid using tampons, douches, spermicides or other vag products. Lactation: not known whether distributed into milk, manufacturer recommends women discontinue breastfeeding while receiving drug

Interactions

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Tioconazole Vag prep : 1-10% Vulvovaginal burning, vaginitis, pruritus (5-6%), Headache (5%), Infection (3%), Abdominal pain (2%), Dysuria, nocturia, pharyngitis, and rhinitis (<2%)

Mechanism of Action

Tioconazole, a synthetic azole antifungal, interferes w/ synthesis of ergosterol which is needed for fungal cell membrane synthesis.
